What does an IP location tell you?
An IP lookup estimates the location of a network address, not your precise physical position. City, region, and map coordinates may reflect your internet provider, VPN, mobile network gateway, or company network. It cannot identify your street address or determine where a person is standing.
If you use a VPN or proxy, the result usually describes its exit server. If your connection supports both IPv4 and IPv6, this lookup shows whichever address your browser uses to reach the lookup service.

Public IP, private IP, and cloud server IP
A public IP is the address a website sees for your connection. A private IP, such as 192.168.1.10 or 10.0.0.5, identifies a device inside a home or cloud network and is not directly reachable across the public internet. A router, VPN, or cloud gateway can make many private devices appear under one public IP.
On a cloud virtual machine, this page shows the public address used for outbound web requests. That can differ from the VM's assigned public or private interface address when traffic passes through a NAT gateway, proxy, or load balancer. Common IP location questions
Can an IP address reveal my exact location?
No. It can suggest a network's approximate city or region, but it does not provide a reliable street address or GPS position.
Why does my IP location show a different city?
Your ISP, mobile carrier, VPN, or cloud proxy may route traffic through another city. The lookup identifies the network address used for the request, not where you are physically located.
Does checking my IP share it with another service?
Yes. When you click the lookup button, your browser contacts ipwho.is directly. Its service receives your public IP to return the result. Nothing is requested from that service before you click.
